The setup at the park Last weekend on Saturday the weather here was great lots of sunshine and very few clouds . So it was off the the park with the radio to give the ARCI welcome to QRP contest a go . Its a 3 hour contest from late morning to early afternoon . I setup my Elecraft K2 along with my mono band mobile whip antennas . The key I used was the Mini Palm paddle which works great and has a super feel to it . Earlier 07.51 utc I sneaked my call sign in between a mass of stations as I worked VK6ANC The Northern Corridor Radio Group VK6ANC was being operated by Andrew during our QSO and was coming in well with a 5 9 20 signal to my station .     : Roger G3XBM's Amateur Radio Blog Simple QRP projects , 10m , 6m , WSPR beaconing , sub-9kHz and other random stuff 28 Aug 2012 Progress on the WISPY transmitter This afternoon I managed to do a little more work on the WSPR transceiver for 10m , building the oscillator x2 multiplier stage and the balanced mixer for the TX part using a couple of 1N4148 diodes and a T50-6 tuned circuit . Carrier suppression is around 30dB without much effort . Next stages will be to add a linear amplifier to bring the DSB output to around 1W 500mW pep SSB carrier Although I could combine the same mixer on RX and TX , I may stick with the Polyakov RX mixer as this is working so well . nbsp I should have added that with a linear PA , the WISPY transceiver should also be perfect for PSK31 as the 14.060MHz

This is , to my knowledge , the first time one of the big manufacturers has properly included 4m in the design . I know at least one Yaesu rig was capable of working on the band , albeit with some compromises .     There's another rare DXPedition just on the horizon! PT0S, St. Peter and Saint Paul Rocks is scheduled for November through the 22nd, 2012 (approximately). Saint Peter and Saint Paul Rocks is an ATNO (all time new one) DXCC for me. Cruising their Website at PT0S.com, I see this is very rare opportunity and possibly the last time we'll have a chance at working the Rocks. There's been an official ban on Amateur Radio activities for quite some time, and it appears they've been given a one-time special operating permit for this DXPedition.     I got a great deal on a slightly used Yaesu FT-1000MP Mark V a few months ago and I finally got around to doing a couple of the standard modifications (mods). I added the Inrad IF Noise Reduction Modification, and also the "bonus" Main Receiver AF Filter Modification. Since I had the bottom cover of the FT-1000MP MK V off anyway, I added the Yaesu YF-114SN and YF-110SN 2.0 SSB filters while I was at it.

His signal strength was a bit different tonight as he is not home in Alabama , but is vacationing in Wisconsin . Completing Fox duty while on vacation now THAT'S dedication Paul AA4XX was another matter . I could barely hear him when I did finally find him . The K3's APF Audio Peak Filter made all the difference in the world . At ESP levels when I first heard him , turning on the APF feature insured that when I finally worked him , I was able to hear him answer me back It took a barely audible signal and boosted it to a 449 to my poor
